Fresh Drinking Water Straight from Your Tap!
I have spent a lot of time researching how I could at last stop buying bottled water, and I’ve also been searching for the perfect answer to the filter pitcher I have which is often used to cook vegetables or rice in.
The answer came to me in the form of a friend of mine. In fact, my best friend and here’s what happened.
I was at her house not long after she came home from vacation, and coffee and cake was on the agenda (we hadn’t seen each other in a couple of weeks). We went to her kitchen to make coffee, and to my horror she filled the kettle from the faucet.
“What are you doing?” I exclaimed.
She gave me a little wink and opened the door under her sink. Nestled neatly below was the Filtrete Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was just a canister (which I later learned was the actual filter) and a couple of connecting hoses that were linked to the cold water system.
Of course, my first thoughts were is it expensive?, and was it easy to install?
Answer to the first question? No.
And the second question? Yes.
So far so good, this little beast won’t cost much and it should only take you about 30 minutes or less to install if you know how to use a drill and a screwdriver, but what about the performance?
If you have parasitic cysts in your water (and let’s face it, who knows if they do), this filter will make sure they don’t reach the water in your glass. It will also reduce that horrible chlorine smell and taste, along with sediment, soil, sand and rust. I’m sure you know what I mean by this, especially if you have a vacation home that’s not used very often.
Now, of course, the more expensive filtrations systems will filter out more contaminants, but this is more than enough to make your tap water safe to drink and much tastier.
You can at last get rid of that annoying filter pitcher (just like I intend to) that somehow always needs filling. You also won’t have to deal with an additional faucet which can take up extra room around your sink.
Another thing you don’t need to worry about is losing water pressure. Although my friend said she didn’t notice any difference, I have done some research of my own and there are some people that disagree with this. Having said that, it’s really minimal, so I’m confident you won’t be standing for ages waiting to fill a glass.
The other great thing about this water filter is the way you change the filters. It’s so simple you’ll fall off your chair! You don’t have to turn the water off and it’s just a case of twisting the old one off, and twisting the new one on. Oh, and you only have to do this once every 6 months.
In my opinion (humble as it may be), if you want to be able to get clean, soft and fresh smelling water straight from your tap without spending a fortune, the Filtrete is one of the best water filtration systems out there. I don’t think you will find anything better in this price range; just one month of buying bottled water will pay for this system.
Oh, and just so you know, they’re readily available at Amazon, which is one of the best online retail sites for a bargain on price.
Incidentally, the coffee I had with my friend?
It was excellent!
