PUR 18-Cup Pitcher Filter Review
Best Budget Water Filter Pitcher

Cheap, Convenient and Effective Water Filtration

My attitude to water softeners and filtration can be found throughout my website, and I have included reviews on just about every type of product available on the market (with a good smattering of information pages to help you make a decision). However, it came to me that I had overlooked the more, shall we say, traditional methods of water filtration.

Lots of people buy bottled water these days, and I used to be one of them, but when I added up how much I was spending and how much effort it took getting just one six pack up the driveway I suddenly realized there had to be another way. So, for this review I’m going to tell you all about the PUR 18 cup dispenser. OK, so this filter isn’t as comprehensive as some of the whole house or under-sink models I’ve included, but it will give you perfectly acceptable clean and tasty drinking water.

Design

This might be a strange place to start with my review but I think the thought that has gone into the design of this dispenser deserves a mention. The manufacturer has thought about the fact we don’t want to take up large amounts of space on our countertops or in the fridge, and the end result works very well.

It will filter and hold about 18 8oz cups of water which is just over 1 gallon. Sounds like a lot doesn’t it? Well, it is but PUR have made this dispenser so it’s narrow in shape, which means it will easily fit on the shelf of your fridge without taking up too much space. In fact, it will take up less space than two large bottles of water you can buy at the grocery store.

How it Works

As with many other pitcher styles filter systems on the market, this one has a filter but the difference here is the amount of contaminants it will deal with. The two stage filtration system removes up to 96% of trace level contaminants which is double that of its leading contender.

The PUR will also remove certain chemicals that can make the water from your faucet taste and smell bad. In fact, you can easily see the difference as the water filters through to the holding tray. The end result is great tasting and odor free water which is a joy to drink.

Other Considerations

Moving back to design for a moment, the manufacturer has made dispensing your filtered water an absolute breeze with its easy to use “faucet” on the front. No more having to precariously lift the pitcher out of the fridge and tip it up.
You also get easy to use handles which makes filling it really simple, and due to the elongated design weight is distributed evenly.

This pitcher will filter up to 40 gallons of water which for the average household will last about 2 months, and you don’t have to worry about knowing when it’s time to change because there is an indicator located at the top.

Overall

If you don’t have the money, or don’t want to spend a lot on a water filtration system but do want to reduce or eliminate the need to buy bottled water, this pitcher is the answer. As you will see on Amazon it’s very well priced and the replacement filters are not expensive either.
