As you go through my website, you will find all sorts of information about water filters and softeners. I have created a place where you can find out everything you need to know when thinking about the water that comes out of your faucet. For this section however, I’ve decided to give you an insight into some of the best refrigerator water filters I have come across during my journey.
Some of the water filter reviews I have on my website do have the ability to link up to your fridge, but they can be complicated to fit and getting it right isn’t always the easiest thing in the world to do. So, if you’re looking to make sure the chilled water and ice that comes from your fridge looks and tastes like it’s just been taken from a pure mountain stream, you’re in for a treat.
You see, just like the water out of your faucet, the ice and water from your fridge can suffer the same problems. Chilled water can be smelly, what some might call an odd color, and not very nice to drink. The same can be said of your ice, and when you use this to mix in your drinks it won’t help you get the best from your favorite tipple.
So, here goes with what I think are the best filters you can buy for your fridge.
Whirlpool 4396841P Refrigerator Water Filter
These filters come in packs of 1, 2 or 3 and will work very nicely with the following brands:
- Whirlpool (obviously)
- KitchenAid
- Maytag
- Amana
- Jenn-Air
What’s great about these filters is they’re so easy to use. You simply pop it into the base grille and let it work its magic. In terms of water quality, this model will remove various contaminants that can make your water smell and taste nasty.
Substances like chlorine, lead and mercury will be a thing of the past. It also has the ability to reduce the number of cysts and particulates in water that can be a danger to your health. One point that’s worth noting is these filters will need to be replaced every 6 months but fear not, your fridge will alert you when this is needed.
Maytag UKF8001 Pur Refrigerator Cyst Water Filter
Available in packs of up to 3 this refrigerator water filter is slightly cheaper than the Whirlpool mentioned above, but that doesn’t mean it compromises on quality. It will happily filter the water in both the Maytag and Jenn-Air fridges that have access inside.
This model is NSF certified and will remove all types of contaminants that can affect the taste of your water (as well as the smell). However, whilst things like lead, mercury and chlorine are removed you will still retain levels of fluoride.
Replacing this filter (which should be done at least once every 12 months) is a breeze. Simply turn it until it becomes loose, take it out and twist the new one back in. Once you’ve used this model, the water and ice from your fridge will never taste the same again – and in a good way!
GE MWF Refrigerator Filter
Around the middle of the range in price is this GE filter which will work with pretty much all models of GE refrigerators. Some might say this filter will look bulky inside your fridge, but imagine how much space all that bottled water takes up, let alone the additional cost each week!
One of the best features about this model is that you don’t have to worry if you’ve installed it upside down, (a problem many people have). This is because the manufacturer has designed the filter so it can be installed either way.
Along with removing contaminants that can affect the taste and smell of your water and ice, this model will also do away with various other bacteria and elements that can be a danger to your health. Plus, (unlike many other models) you can make use of the 30 day warranty period.
Samsung Aqua-Pure Plus Refrigerator Filter
If you have a Samsung side-by-side or French door refrigerator with access for a filter on the inside, this model will do wonders. Also NSF certified this filter uses high grade carbon that will effectively remove up to 99% of contaminants in your ice and water that can pose a threat to your health whilst at the same-time retaining fluoride.
Available in packs of up to 3, you will never have to deal with odors or poor tasting water from your fridge again. It’s reasonably priced, and will eliminate the need for you take space up in your fridge with bottled water.
Frigidaire WF2CB PureSource2 Filtration System
I have to say, this is one of my favorite water filters for your fridge. If you own a Frigidaire or Kenmore (made by Frigidaire) with a front loading cassette this filter is for you. What I like most is how efficiently it will filter the water in your fridge. As with pretty much all models this filter is NSF approved however, it will remove 99.99% of cysts (which can be very nasty) and between 98 to 99% of class I and III particulates.
It will even eliminate a high number of herbicides and pesticides that can be present in your drinking water. Plus, you have the added benefit of no more odors or nasty tastes.
LG LT700P Refrigerator Water Filter
Getting the best tasting and odorless water from your fridge will eliminate the need for buying bottled water which can be a right pain! This LG model is designed to work with four door dispensing and French door LG fridges. It’s quick and easy to install, and will remove up to 90% of contaminants that can affect the quality of the water you get from your fridge.
It’s also NSF approved for standards from 42 to 53 so you know the next time you pour a glass of water from your fridge, you can drink with peace of mind you are actually doing some good for your health.
